Jose Tabares – Visualjournalist

My name is José Ángel Tabares. I was born and educated in Cuba, where I earned a Bachelor’sdegree in Art History from the Faculty of Humanities. Since 1999, I have been living in Finland, where I continued my studies in Multimedia and obtained a Professional Photographer’s Diploma from the Institute of Visual Communication (V.V.I.) in Tampere.

I work as a freelance photojournalist. I am very interested in covering significant sociopolitical, cultural, and sporting events across North America.

Throughout my career, I have nurtured a deep passion for visual journalism and authentic storytelling. My primary motivation is to capture meaningful moments, preserve them through my lens, and share real-life stories that connect with people emotionally.
I am a person driven by continuous learning, with insatiable curiosity and a constant desire to expand my knowledge and skills. I am currently refining my skills in audiovisual storytelling and working on several personal projects, including the production of a biographical book and a photo series about the dreams of freedom and democracy in Cuba. I am also eager to explore new multimedia technologies and digital platforms. I am passionate about challenges that inspire both personal and professional growth.

As a visual journalist, I have had the opportunity to cover a wide range of events, which has equipped me with strong adaptability, professional ethics, and sharp news judgment. I am available to travel anywhere in the world, and fully equipped to work independently, from field coverage to editing and post-production.

I consider myself honest, organized, and proactive, with a clear sense for identifying relevant stories and the courage to express my viewpoints with integrity. I thrive under pressure, maintaining a positive and collaborative spirit even in demanding assignments.
