📑 Editorial Use of Images
At Photostar, we offer images under various licensing options tailored to our clients’ needs. One of these is the editorial use license, intended exclusively for informational, educational, or documentary purposes.
📌 What is Editorial Use?
Editorial use refers to the use of images in news media, digital or print publications, blogs, reports, documentaries, academic books, and any other content whose primary purpose is to inform, illustrate, or document matters of public interest.
Images licensed for editorial use may not be used for advertising, promotional, or commercial purposes — meaning they cannot be used to sell products, services, or brands, or in advertising campaigns, catalogs, marketing brochures, or social media promotions.
📖 Examples of Permitted Editorial Use:
- Publishing a photograph in a newspaper, magazine, or digital media outlet to illustrate a news article.
- Including an image in a journalistic report or documentary.
- Using photographs in blog posts or educational, historical, or academic publications.
📛 Uses Not Permitted Under Editorial License:
- Any type of advertising or promotional campaign.
- Commercial posters, flyers, or marketing materials.
- Covers of commercial books, albums, or branded publications.
- Merchandise, postcards, or items intended for direct sale.
📌 Rights and Conditions:
- Editorial images are published as captured, without the need for a signed release from identifiable individuals, provided the images were taken in public spaces or at newsworthy events.
- The user must always provide proper credit to the photographer and/or agency, respecting copyright and authorship rights.
📎 Important:
Any use of an editorial image outside the permitted scope requires the purchase of an additional license or express written consent from Photostar and the photographer.
